Make sense of your engineering systems.

Mountain Ranch Labs helps manufacturers see, simplify, and run the software their engineers depend on. You get a view of every CAD, FEA, PDM, and PLM tool you use and of where your engineering data actually lives.

What I do

Too many tools, too many places for data.

Many manufacturers run several CAD packages and more than one PDM or PLM system side by side, with network drives filling the gaps. That setup is expensive to maintain and hard to govern. Engineering leaders want to standardize but rarely have the time or in-house expertise to plan it. That's the gap I fill.

01

Engineering systems audit

An inventory of the CAD, FEA, PDM, and PLM tools you use, who uses them, where their data is stored, and how they're configured.

02

Process improvement

A review of your engineering business processes, such as release, change, and data handoffs, with specific opportunities to improve them.

03

Architecture recommendation

A target-state design for your engineering software environment, plus a realistic path to reach it.

04

Transformation & implementation

Hands-on help consolidating tools, migrating data, and delivering the new architecture, followed by ongoing support if you want it.

How it works

Start small. Grow only if it's worth it.

Every engagement begins with a clear picture of where you are today. You decide how far to take it from there.

  1. Map

Use the free mapping tool to lay out your engineering software and where it stores data. Send me the export if you'd like a second set of eyes.

  2. Snapshot

A short environment snapshot built from your map and a brief questionnaire. It's done remotely, so it doesn't disrupt your team.

  3. Audit

A fixed-scope assessment after a discovery meeting. You get a complete report with findings and a recommended architecture.

  4. Act

Choose the level of help that fits your team.

Tools

Built by an engineer, for engineering teams.

I build software to speed up the parts of this work that are usually slow and manual. Both tools are in development. Get in touch to hear when they launch or to join early testing.

Engineering Systems Mapping Tool

Coming soon

A visual map of your organization's engineering software and every place it stores data. You add your CAD, FEA, PDM, and PLM tools along with the network drives and vaults behind them, and the tool draws the connections for you.

  • Free version covers a single site
  • Full version maps across multiple sites
  • Your map stays with you. Export it and send it over only if you want a review.

Cross-System Data Sync Portal

Coming soon

When the same part, document, or attribute lives in more than one system, it rarely stays in sync. The portal searches across multiple data stores and checks that the information in each one matches, so mismatches turn up before they cause problems on the shop floor.

  • Search one record across several systems at once
  • Flag differences in revisions, attributes, and files
  • Find out which source is out of step

About

An engineer who runs these systems every day.

Mountain Ranch Labs is an independent consultancy founded by a mechanical engineer who works as a Teamcenter administrator and customization developer. That means a working understanding of what keeps an engineering environment healthy: user sessions, check-ins, translations, data models, and the people who rely on them.

I'm not tied to any software vendor, so my recommendations come from what fits your team, not from what someone else needs to sell.

  • FocusManufacturers with multi-CAD and multi-PDM/PLM environments, or teams setting up engineering tools for the first time
  • SystemsCAD, FEA, PDM, and PLM, including Teamcenter administration and customization
  • ApproachVendor-neutral. Starts with a small first engagement. Most work is done remotely.
